Professor David Barrett is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Knee Surgery. He practises at Southampton University Hospital, where he is also Professor of Orthopaedic engineering with a special interest in knee joint design. He also has clinics in the private sector at the Spire Hospital in Southampton and at the Wessex Nuffield.
Professor Barrett has appeared in numerous television programmes and been the focus of various newspaper articles featuring Knee Surgery both in the UK and abroad. In particular, he featured in the BBC 1 series “City Hospital” for four years with presenter Nic Knowles and subsequently appeared in the BBC 2 series “Archaeological Mysteries”. He recently featured in an article in The Daily Express, concerning his successful reconstruction of an Olympic athlete’s knee and in The Daily Mail featuring his novel technique of partial resurfacing of the knee. Professor Barrett is currently working on a new BBC series with Nic Knowles on Orthopaedic Advances.
